August 2020 Content

Posted on 2nd August, 2020

These were the posts from the July update of my Patreon page, of which I have since suspended as there was minimal interaction on the page and the return to work has been very time-intensive. I will therefore focus posting a selection of social media images here on this blog once a month to ensure businesses can still receive a source of high-quality optometry-related business social media images.

The same terms apply - they are free to use without accreditation and can be modified for your own business as you seem fit, as long as you do not claim to own the image, or sell on as an individual file or make available as part of a larger collection.

I am still offering the opportunity to have these images customised, with your logo, contact details or produced in your own colour schemes. If you would like a bespoke image, I am currently open to requests.  Please use the Contact Me form to request details.

HERE COMES THE SUN

The words

July, August and September are traditionally months where the UK experiences its sunniest periods and as such the demand for sunglasses is high. Use this post to talk about sunglasses, as a cover for a selection of images in a sequence or talk about protecting eyes from ultraviolet radiation.

NEW COBWEBS IN YOUR VISION?

A craft paper scene of a cobweb with an eyeball in the centre. The words

A new cobweb in your vision can be a sign of a vitreoretinal issue such as a posterior vitreous detachment, retinal tear or a retinal detachment.  Prompt investigation with a dilated fundus examination is required. Use this post to talk about the symptoms of flashes and floaters and why it is important to have them investigated urgently. It can also be used to talk about other urgent eye care situations.

DIY PROJECT?

DIY projects are the source of many injuries, including severe injury to the eye. This image can accompany a post that can be used to talk about eye protection and the importance of wearing it when doing DIY projects.  You may wish to include facts and figures on eye trauma and perhaps share stories of DIY disasters of your own.

This image may also be suitable for other businesses outside of optometry that deal with DIY. The images from Eyes on Eye Care are available for use by all and not just for optical-related business.

NO WATER

A water drop in a prohibited sign appears with the words

Water is a necessity in life, but eye care professionals know that water can also harbour some nasty micro-organisms that can cause blindness if combined with contact lens wear. Use this post to talk about the dangers of water and lens wear, reinforce contact lens compliance and to discuss what to do if contact lenses come in contact with water.

NO SWIMMING

A swimmer is in a prohibited sign. The words

Swimming in contact lenses is probably one of the riskiest behaviour a contact lens wearer can do. Water bodies, be it in a swimming pool, lake or ocean all have many pathogens within, which can take advantage of the environment the contact lens provides on the eye, leading to a risk of a painful and sight-threatening condition.

HAVE SPECS APPEAL

A green silhouette of a pair of glasses appear on a green background with the words

Occasionally it is nice to share something non-educational and light-hearted. This post is a play on words, with the silhouette of lenses replacing the word "spex". This image can be used on its own, accompanying photographs of your own inventory or any post talking about spectacle wear.

ARE YOUR EYES ROAD LEGAL?

 A stop sign reads

The visual standards for driving have been in the news quite a bit this year, after the controversy of a certain advisor using a drive to Barnard Castle to "test his eyesight". Many people do not realise the standards for driving and feel that their vision is "fine for driving" when it may not be. Use this image to help talk about visual standards for driving and other driving-related visual topics.
